Aim

The program aims to enable students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to design and communicate information on a number of multimedia platforms, together with an understanding of the sociological and cultural significance of new communication technologies.

Entry requirements

General entry requirements are three principals in the A levels or its equivalent or a minimum of three principal Cs in the Sijil Tinggii Persekolahan (STPM) and an English requirement of IELTS 6.0 with a subscore of 6.0 in reading and writing, or equivalent.

Entry requirements can also be met from one or more of the following:

  • South Australian Matriculation
  • Canadian Pre-University (Ontario Senior Secondary Diploma) - Average of 60% based on five subjects including English
  • Chinese Independent Schools UEC Exams - 30 points based on six relevant subjects including English
  • Taylor's College will undertake provisional selection of standard cases to be confirmed by UniSA. In non-standard cases, Taylor's College will be referred to UniSA for a decision. UniSA will provide guidelines for standard cases to be processed by Taylor's College and all documentation will be sent to UniSA for confirmation. All documentation will be held on file at UniSA.

    Special requirements
    Students having successfully completed the Foundation Year in Communication offered at the School of Communication at Taylor's College shall have direct entry into the first year of the program.

    Content/structure

    The program requires the completion of courses totalling 108 units, comprising 18 units of foundation courses, a 36 unit professional major, a 27 unit general studies sub-major, an 18 unit minor and two electives. The program is sequenced to allow students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to design and communicate information on a number of multimedia platforms, together with understanding of the sociological and cultural significance of new communications technologies. This program traverses traditional and new media forms and platforms, emphasising creative content production and project management in the area of digital media. It provides students with a comprehensive set of portable production skills and expertise which are directly relevant to and applicable across a range of communications industries.

    Notes

    1. The first two years of the program will be taught at Taylor's College using a combination of flexible learning techniques, including face to face classes taught by Taylor's staff, supported by print resources and online documentation prepared by University of South Australia staff.
    2. The final year of study (36 units) will take place at the Magill Campus of the University of South Australia.
    3. Students have the option to complete their program in Australia at any time after the completion of 36 units at Taylor's College.
    4. The elective courses may be selected from elective courses in the School of Communication listed at Undergraduate Elective Courses.
