Brian Condon: Letters and Documents in 19th Century Australian Catholic History

Revd. dear Sir,
The James has not as yet arrived in the harbour. Passages have been provided on board that Vessel for you and me. And I must say that I was greatly disappointed on learning from the Navy Agent at Cove that no other accommodation, not even the ship's rations, had been ordered for us. So that I have to apprehend that the expenses attendant on our going out, and for which I am at present totally unprepared, will be nearly as great as if a free passage had not been afforded.
I suppose that Dr Slater is not aware of the circumstances and I defer writing to him concerning it until I shall have received a letter which he has promised to send me and which I am in daily expectation of.
The Navy Agent does not know at what time the James is likely to arrive, but thinks it will be shortly here. If you should not be here before it I will write to you immediately on her arrival.
