Dear Sir,

It is, I beg leave to assure you, with the most sincere sentiments of respect and gratitude that I acknowledge the receipt of your donation of the Ten Pounds in aid of the funds established for the erection of a Catholic Chapel in this town, and that I accept your benevolent offer of contributing your exertions on your arrival in England, in procuring subscriptions from its enlightened and liberal inhabitants, the more effectually to enable me to forward and complete it according to the original beautiful design. Having the most perfect confidence in your prudence, integrity and honor I have no hesitation in leaving the selection of persons to whom application may be made, and the mode of making it to your own discretion, but in order to completely obviate any suspicion which may possibly arise in the mind of anyone unacquainted with your character, you will agree with me as to the expediency of giving local and immediate publicity to whatever contributions you may receive, and of transmitting them by the earliest opportunity (through one of the public Authorities of this Country, say Major Goulburn (Colonial Secretary) to the Reverend Philip Conolly, my brother clergyman, or to your

Obedient and devoted servant

John Joseph Therry R.C.C.
