Brian Condon: Letters and Documents in 19th Century Australian Catholic History
Appendix, no. 1
Copy of a letter from the Reverend Dr. (now the Right Reverend Dr.) William Higgins to the Very Reverend Dr. Blake, Rome.
Maynooth College, April 23rd. 1827
Very Reverend and dear Sir,
You will be handed this note by Mr. Rogers, a young gentleman of much respectability, who has completed his course of studies in this establishment. As he is bearer of letters more calculated to recommend him to your notice than any thing I could say in his favor, I shall merely state, that during the last academic year, he has uniformly conducted himself with the most unexceptionable propriety in my class, and given proofs of excellent talents. May I therefore request that you will consider him in every way qualified to profit by the superior opportunities of improvement afforded by your respectable college.
Mr. R. is much more able to give you the news of this country viva voce, than I could attempt to do; I hope, however, to write you after a few weeks, a long and detailed letter. Dr. Cullen is well and desires [to?] be remembered. You would oblige me by remembering me to Messrs Markham and O'Fea.
I remain, Very Rev. Dear Sir,
Yours most truly
William Higgins
