Reverend Sir,

With reference to your two letters of 10th. and 12th. inst. I am directed by His Excellency the Governor to inform you that Mr Therry has no personal property whatever in the Premises attached to the Roman Catholic Chapel in Sydney, and that the ground was intended to be granted to Trustees for the use of the Roman Catholic inhabitants generally.

I am also directed to acquaint you that the Government was fully disposed to afford its assistance in rendering the Chapel fit for the performance of Divine Worship, but the means at its disposal are so totally inadequate to the completion of several necessary and important Public Works that it has not been able to proceed with the New Gaol, and that work has not
