Reverend Sir,

With reference to your letter of the 2nd. instant addressed to the Surveyor General stating that your request to the Governor was for two or three additional allotments to be attached to the Roman Catholic Chapel in Sydney as a place for enclosure for the accommodation of the incumbent Pastor, his House etc., I am directed by His Excellency to inform you it was not understood that you wished for additional ground, but to have marked off that which had been granted (as mentioned in my letter of the 29th. ultimo) and that it is not in His Excellency's power to extend the former grant.

I have the honor to be,

Reverend Sir,

Your most obedient Servant

Alex. McLeay

[The letter carries what are obviously the file numbers of this and/or related correspondence: 27/3720, 27/4510, 27/4748, 27/5190. Ed]
