Gido Mapunda is Program Director in the School of Management. He is responsible for the following programs: Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of Management (Logistics and Supply Chain Management) onshore and offshore, and Double degree in Management and International Studies. He has conducted research into entrepreneurship, small business development, economic development and social advancement, leadership and management in emerging markets or economies. His research is premised on real people with real challenges and is grounded on making a positive socio-economic difference.

Currently Dr Mapunda is involved in CRC Desert Knowledge research project, which explores, among other things, the sustainability of business enterprises in Desert Australia. He is also a member of the Steering Committee of Leadership and Management Studies of Sub-Sahara Africa (LMSSSA). The activities of this vital organisation culminate in an international conference once every two year. The last conference was held in Zanzibar in June 2006. The next one will be held in Accra, Ghana in July 2008. He is committed to small business organisations and community organisations at the grassroots level because this is where much assistance and support is needed. He is passionate about Community service (service learning!), is actively involved in the community at the grassroots level, and is a strong believer in giving something back to the community. He is a member of the newly formed Centrelink Multicultural Advisory Forum, an executive member of the African Communities Council Of South Australia (ACCSA), Chairperson of the Tanzanian Community Association of South Australia (TCASA), and president of Africa United Allstars Football Club (AUAFC).

In May 2007 Dr Mapunda was invited, and accepted, to join a group of global Academics/consultants of the International Indigenous Journal of Entrepreneurship by its editor, Jens Mueller. He is passionate about research that addresses real challenges faced by the marginalised and dispossed majority - research that makes a positive difference through economic development and social advancemnt or real people.

In January 2008 Dr Mapunda was invited by Dr Asta Pundziene, Editor of the Baltic Journal of Management to join the journal's referee/review panel. The Journal seeks to engender collaboration between different management research cultures. To that end, it acts as a forum to encourage dialogue between the East and the West.

In June 2008 Dr Mapunda was invited and accepted, to chair the SMEs session at the Leadership and Management Studies in Sub-Sahara Africa conference in Accra, Ghana 7-9 July, 2008.

Mapunda is an active member of the African Management Research Group (AMRG), a nascent affiliate of the Academy of Management (AOM). Membership is open to researchers interested in promoting African management research in the Academy of Management.
