Welcome to my homepage. I am the Program Director for undergraduate Journalism in the School of Communication, International Studies and Languages at the University of South Australia's Magill campus. I teach Journalism at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, in the Bachelor of Journalism and the two associated double degrees - the Bachelor of Journalism, BA (International Studies); and the Bachelor of Journalism, BA (Writing and Creative Communication) - as well as in the Graduate Diploma in Journalism and the MA (Journalism).

I am also chair of the Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences Division Academic Program Approval Committee (DAPAC) and a member of the Division of EASS Board and the School of Communication, International Studies and Languages Executive.

I am Associate Editor of Australian Journalism Review, the leading academic publication for journalism education in Australia.

My current PhD research project focuses on the role of non-metropolitan newspapers, and relationships between newspapers and communities.

My professional background is in print journalism. I worked in newspapers in Australia and the UK for 17 years - gaining extensive experience as a reporter and sub-editor - before moving into journalism education.
