My role as Research Education Adviser (International) is to work directly with research students who are International and for whom English is an additional lanaguge (EAL). The main focus is to develop appropriate academic/research discourse skills for written and oral communication of research. I work on all metropolitan campuses of the university.
For the twelve years before this specialisation, I worked as a Learning Adviser at Mawson Lakes in collaboration with the Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment, and, at Magill with the Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences.
Prior to this, I had extensive experience as an educator in the secondary and tertiary sector in Australia and the Pacific. I taught secondary Mathematics, Science and English as a Second Language for 8 years and was a secondary teacher educator in Papua New Guinea, Fiji and the Solomon Islands for 9 years. While in the Solomon Islands I worked as an AusAid Mathematics Education consultant to establish a Secondary Teacher Education program.
I am currently completing my PhD in Education. My research is investigating what happens for transnational students in Hong Kong when online resources for academic writing are integrated into a copmutign course.
