Welcome to my home page. I retired from the University of South Australia on July 31, 2009 but will continue to voluntarily conduct research and supervise my PhD students as an Adjunct to the School of Psychology, Social Work & Social Policy. For many years I was the Director of Postgraduate Studies and the Research Portfolio Leader in the School of Social Work & Social Policy and the Coordinator of the Centre for Peace, Conflict and Mediation (CPCM). The CPCM is now coordinated by Professor Elisabeth Porter - elisabeth.porter@unisa.edu.au

I was also the Program Director for four post-graduate courses in the School of Social Work & Social Policy - the Doctor of Human Service Research; the Master of Mediation and Conflict Resolution, Graduate Diploma in Mediation and Conflict Resolution and the Graduate Certificate in Mediation. From 1998-1999, I convened and presided as Chairperson of the South Australian Dispute Resolution Association, which for many years published a national newsletter with other State-based Associations In Australia called "Mediation News". I continued to serve as a member of the Executive Committee for some years.

I formed the Asia Pacific Mediation Forum (APMF) in 2001 and have been elected four times as the President (still current) and convened the first APMF conference. I was a founding member of the World Mediation Forum (WMF) in 1995. From 2001 - 2003 I was the President of the World Mediation Forum folowed by three terms as the Vice-President.

Member of the US-based association - Association for Conflict Resolution - and a member of the International Editorial Board of their international journal, the Conflict Resolution Quarterly, published by Jossey-Bass.

• DRAMA AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION (DRACON) PROJECT from 1996 to 2005 - an International Research Project involving researchers from Sweden, Malaysia and Australia. Cross-cultural aspects of conflicts were studied and improved methods of teaching adolescents in schools to handle conflicts were explored. Co-author of a research-based e-book 'Bridging the fields of drama and conflict management. Empowering students to handle conflicts through school-based programmes'. See web-link above.
• OLDER PERSON'S FAMILY MEDIATION PROJECT: a pilot project in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association and Western Mediation.
• CULTURE OF PEACE NEWS NETWORK (CPNN) Project in the Year of Culture and Peace - a project in partnership with UNESCO, the University of Melbourne and Deakin University to develop an Australian internet site to promote a culture of peace. Responsible for the Activities Team in Australia which is implementing the project with schools and community groups.

• JANNAWI KIDS PROJECT: (Chief Researcher ad Manger) Grant from the Attorney-General's Department Crime Prevention Unit and the Commonwealth's Partnerships Against Domestic Violence for an Early Intervention and Prevention Project for Children Affected by Domestic Violence - in partnership with the Jannawi Kids Family Centre (Sydney) and many community-based agencies - June 2001. Evaluation of the Jannawi Kids Resource Kits, involving puppets, for children and families affected by domestic violence.
• CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN TRANSITION (CAFIT) PROJECT (Chief Researcher and Manager): research project established in 2004 and funded by the Telstra Foundation in 2005/6 and 2006/7 involving collaboration between the Centre for Peace, Conflict and Mediation, Hawke Research Institute, and Centacare Family Services SA. • 2007: Manager and Chief reseacher of a project funded by the South Australian Office for Ageing to write the State Plan - 'Our Plan for the Prevention of Abuse of Older South Australians' (with Dr Sarah Wendt and Dr Lana Zannettino)in 2007.

• RESEARCH AWARDS: 2002: Postgraduate students award for the Research Supervisor of the Year. 1999: Chancellor's Award for Community Service - Dale Bagshaw and Donna Chung, for Domestic Violence Needs research funded by the Partnerships Against Domestic Violence.
• EARLIER RESEARCH GRANTS: 1998: Faculty Research Development Grant for a second edition of the Australian Dispute Resolution Directory and a national website. 1997: Faculty Grant for Stage 3 of the DRACON Project. 1996: University of South Australia Development Grant as Chief Investigator for the DRACON (Drama and Conflict) Project. Conducted 17 focus groups and administered over 800 questionnaires to Year 9 students in 15 South Australian schools. 1995: Faculty Grant for Stage 1 of the International Educational Drama and Conflict Resolution (DRACON) Project with adolescents in Secondary Schools. 1995/6: Law Foundation SA Grant to produce the first national Australian Dispute Resolution Directory.
