Welcome to my home page. My role as an Academic Developer at City East allows me to work with academic staff about what I am most passionate about, teaching and learning. My interests move about and change over time but three aspects of teaching and learning seem to remain. I am interested in the affective domain of teaching and learning. Particularly, how we might develop courses and programs so that we can rigorously, academically , develop and assess affective learning. Peer review is important to me as a formative development process that enables teachers to simultaneously disseminate their understandings of educative teaching and engaging in collegial review. Peer review is for me a supportive structure that allows teachers to both demonstrate and learn. Lastly, Service Learning which is a form of real world learning that situates students as members of a society and a profession. This is about engaging with people in ways that are not traditionally seen as academic but which, when done thoughtfully and intentionally, leads to learning that can be confronting and meaningful.

I have an interest in Service Learning and am in the process of collecting as many diverse examples of this form of experiential learning from across the University as possible. By disseminating these exemplars I hope to inspire others to recognise the unique learning opportunities that Service Learing creates and build a network of lecturers with this common interest. If you know of a Service Learning course please contact me!
