Currently, he is Senior Lecturer in Child Development in the deLissa Institute of Early Childhood and Family Studies where his principal responsibilities are to supervise and teach the program for honours students and to prepare all early childhood students for their rôle as practitioner researchers. After attending Haberfield Demonstration School and Fort St Boys High, Glenn graduated from Sydney University with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in Psychology and then completed a Master of Arts with Honours at the University of New South Wales. He has a Doctor of Philosophy from Murdoch University for his thesis 'Spiritual Development and the Public Educative Care of Children: A Critical Evaluation of Biblical and Dynamic Systems Perspectives' Initially employed to teach Psychology at Wollongong University, he moved to Adelaide in 1975 to teach child development and has since specialised in children's cognitive development, research methods, the impact of electronic media upon children and children's spiritual development. Glenn has published four books, 'Perspectives on children and spirituality', 'Kids and the scary world of video', 'The child audience' and 'Socialising the superheroes', and a number of chapters and papers. His interest in children and media has been reflected in advocacy, through the Australian Council for Children's Films and Television and as a member of the Community Ascertainment Committee of SAS-7 Adelaide; in addresses to professional conferences and community groups, including lecture tours in Western Australia and Tasmania; and in consultancies for the Australian Broadcasting Authority, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, commercial networks and individual producers. Research Degree Supervisor
Glenn is interested in supervising research in the areas of children's interaction with electronic media and of the development of spirituality in childhood. As a psychologist his primary orientation is to empirical research but he will also supervise theoretical research in philosophy and theology related to the above areas. He is particularly interested in the application of dynamic (or complex) systems theory to human development and spirituality.Change | Staff home page help
