Welcome to my home page. My name is Isobel Grave and I am the Cassamarca lecturer in Italian Studies in the School of International Studies. My teaching interests are in the areas of Italian language and literature (especially Italian poetry) and in translation theory. I teach Italian 1A and 1B, Italian 2A and 2B, and Italian 4A and 4B, as well as supervise Honours theses in the area of Translation and Interpreting.
RESEARCH: My research interests are in the areas of translation, both theory and practice. I am editor of the AALITRA Newsletter (Australian Association of Literary Translators), an on-line journal for translators containing reviews and translations in parallel text format. I have published translations of poetic texts from Italian into English in Southerly, New England Review and Convivio. I translated and edited the poetic works of the Australian-Italian poet, Mary Ceravolo. Other research interests are in medieval Italian poetry, and in grammar, style and sentence structure in the analysis of poetic texts.
