Research Degree Supervisor
I am interested in any research which investigates the role of language in people's lives, particularly in interactions which affect their life chances. I am currently supervising seven PhDs at the University of South Australia, three focusing on intercultural aspects of international education; one on assessment in English language education; one on the use of first and second languages in second language writing, one on a conversational analytical study of interaction between speakers of Japanese; and one focusing on issues raised for stroke therapy by patients from CALD backgrounds. I am also supervising two PhDs in psychiatry at the University of Adelaide, one focusing on the role of language in auditory hallucinations; the other on language in cognitive behavioural therapy. Most recently, Anasuya Jegathevi Jegathesan graduated with a doctorate focusing on the methods developed to manage risk in clinical practice by nurses for whom English is an additional language.Change | Staff home page help
