"I feel that we as teachers cannot ask students to take risks with their work unless we are also willing to take the same kind of risks with our own art practice. This is something that I strongly feel students respect and expect. Having recently been a student in my MA studies I know how important it is that students feel assured that we as teachers and the University itself cares about them and values their presence within the program. Central to my role as an educator in photography is the understanding of the collapse of the boundaries of photography, its infiltration, and its inclusion via the computer in the media network. We are in the midst of change in how photography is perceived and experienced. Photography exists as an interface between analogue and digital media and as such is a medium of immense importance. I believe that with these ideas driving teaching practice we can be confident that graduates leave us with a desire for a life-long interest in critical and creative thinking and a deep understanding of the role of the visual arts in contemporary culture."
