Appointed as Professor of Patient Safety & Healthcare Human Factors in 2007.
- have published over 200 articles, chapters or reports and a book on safety and ethics in healthcare. I was a co-author of the landmark Quality in Australian Health Care Study published in the Medical Journal of Australia (MJA) in 1995, one of the top 10 cited studies published in the MJA.
- have given over 600 lectures by invitation.
- have been awarded over $22 million in research grants over the last 35 years.
- have supervised or co-supervised 29 research students since 1977.
- was honoured with the William Russ Pugh Award of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists, for outstanding contribution to advancement of the science of anaesthesia and related disciplines, awarded Sydney, Australia, 2008.
- was honoured with the Sidney Sax Medal for outstanding achievement in and contribution to the development and improvement of the Australian healthcare system, awarded by the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association, Canberra, Australia, 2008.
