I have returned to educational research in Australia following ten years of working, living and learning in China and neighbouring countries in the fields of education and social research, international development and international communications. Written communication, including grantwriting, literature reviewing, research reporting and Chinese-English translation has been a significant component of my past and current work. Having lived, worked and studied in China for much of my adult life and speaking and writing Chinese, I am interested in promoting cross cultural engagement and furthering research, teaching and learning relating to Chinese culture and languages across disciplines and applications.

Research interests

  • My research interests include: Ethnicity, migration and relations between cultures; Workplace cultures; Chinese languages and cultures; The politics and poetics of translation; Voice and representation of and research with children and young people
  • More recently my research has focused on: school disengagement among young Australians; education and support issues for international students in Australia; school-community-university partnerships; workplace skills recognition; traversing fields of socio-cultural justice; ecological sustainability and consumer culture in early childhood; and international parenting practices.
