I joined the School of Social Work and Social Policy in February 2007. I am a qualified social worker with a background in women's health and community health. My ongoing teaching and research interests are in the areas of gender and mental health, social exclusion and mental health and interpretive research methodology, particularly post-structural approaches. I have a particular interest in the social construction of subjectivity and the implications for mental health and wellbeing.
Teaching interests
- My teaching interests are in the areas of sociology of health, particularly mental health, and gender and society.
- I have particular interests in research education and as part of this coordinate the Honours program in the Bachelor of Social Work, which includes teaching Honours Seminar.
- I am also Research Degrees coordinator in the School and facilitate a montlhy work-in-progress group for our higher degrees students.

Research interests
- My main area of research interest is the sociology of mental health, particularly gender and mental health. I have undertaken post-structural feminist research into the gender discourses structuring health care interventions for eating disorders, and continue to publish and supervise students in this field.
- I am also undertaking research into social exclusion and mental health, specifically the intersections between homelessness, gender and mental health.
