Awarded a Doctor of Education qualification from the University of South Australia in 2005, I hold adjunct researcher status in education. My current national consultancy role as a Senior Research Fellow on an ALTC (formerly Carrick funded) grant focuses on national 'Experiential Learning Placements for Pharmacy students'. The current project builds on the successful work from 2007 which has now been funded to follow-up on the recommendations in regard to developing a central online repository for curriculum development and sharing; establishing graduated descriptors for competencies relevant to students and developing quality indicators for experiential placements. This work builds on my doctoral research studies which involved quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches focused on 'Emerging Trends in Teacher Professional Development within a Career Continuum'. My research in Australia and overseas has included coaching, mentoring and study teams, with communities of practice theoretical frameworks applied.

I have over 30 years experience as a primary and secondary school teacher in various states of Australia and overseas, including a decade in high school leadership focused on professional development, performance management, personnel, school planning and middle schooling. I have also held various senior departmental positions in School Development Planning, the South Australian Certificate of Education, Performance Management and Underperformance including policy writing, advisory work with principals, professional development, research and educational reviews. I have worked with the registration board for teachers in a research and consultancy role related to professional teaching standards and led national consultancy work for DEST in teacher workforce planning.

I continue to work as a researcher, consultant and evaluator with professional associations and government agencies, and support school leaders in planning and delivering quality professional development programs. A continuing member of the South Australian Secondary Principals Association, AARE and the Australian College of Educators, I have conducted coaching workshops for leaders and regularly present conference papers, also supporting agencies in research and evaluation tender processes. I have worked with a range of disciplines including law education, speech pathology, podiatry in improving curriculum, competency and accreditation frameworks.
