Wasim Saman is Professor of sustainable energy engineering. He is the founding Director and currently Director of Research of the Institute for Sustainable Systems and Technologies(http://www.unisa.edu.au/isst). He is also the founding Director of the Sustainable Energy Centre,(http://www.unisa.edu.au/sec). He has been working in energy education, industry based research, development and consultancy since the nineteen seventies. He is past President of the South Australian branch of the Australian and New Zealand Solar Energy Society and Executive Director of the South Australian Solar Car Consortium. He is currently Director of the Australian Carbon Biosequestration Initiative Pty Ltd.

He has a considerable track record in developing and implementing sustainable systems and technologies including solar and energy efficient heating and cooling systems and solar lights. He also led the development and implementation of a methodology for evaluating and reducing energy use in new housing developments. He is currently involved in developing new energy rating tools for Australian and New Zealand housing. His current research includes developing an integrated solar system for the provision of hot water heating and cooling, developing better roofing systems, evaluation and monitoring of innovative energy and water features in the Lochiel Park Green Village and building solar thermal electricity and thermal desalination systems.
