Innovation and craft brewing in Australia: strategies, impacts and opportunities

The motivation behind this research is to understand how new firms originate, proliferate and sustain themselves and the sector, in a traditional, concentrated, mature industry that is experiencing a decline in demand for its product. The emergence of a new group of organizations in an industry with these dynamics would seem counter-intuitive. Therefore, this thesis will attempt to explain how and why new firms have entered the beer brewing industry and what role innovation has, and is, playing within the sector to enhance its current growth trajectory. The main research question of this study is this: What explains why and how new entrants have ventured into craft brewing in Australia in the last 30 years?
